Adrian Curlewis Twilight Masters Carnival

The Adrian Curlewis Twilight Masters Carnival is an annual surf sports team event held in early January by the Palm Beach Surf Life Saving Club in New South Wales. It brings together masters athletes (aged 30 and over) for friendly twilight ocean and beach competitions, a club barbecue, and social celebrations.

History and Meaning

  • Named after Sir Adrian Curlewis, a founding member of Palm Beach SLSC often called the "father of surf lifesaving in Australia".
  • Designed as a fun, relaxed team-focused twilight event rather than a high-stress official championship.
  • Serves as a popular social gathering and kick-off event for the new year's surf lifesaving calendar before serious state and national championships begin.

Event Features

  • Open to masters surf life savers from various clubs, welcoming mixed-age and mixed-gender relay teams.
  • Features traditional surf disciplines like swimming, board paddling, ski paddling, and beach sprints, alongside novelty team challenges.
  • Concludes on the club's lawn with a traditional barbecue, presentations, and community fellowship
