Our new emerging leaders

Two of our young Tamarama SLSC members, Oliver Hunt and Bella Van Stipriaan-Huiken, attended the Leadership Day hosted at Maroubra SLSC by Surf Life Saving Sydney Branch which was held Saturday 21 September. It was a full day of Leadership coaching which included 28 leaders from across Sydney Branch aged 18-25 years old. They completed corporate style leadership activities and were treated to guest speakers from across Sydney Branch and Illawarra Branches including Shannon Fox - 2022 SLSA Lifesaver of the Year, Michael Bonnici - Director of Lifesaving Sydney Branch & Jackson Towns - Duty Office Sydney Branch.

The topics discussed focused on enhancing their leadership skills and giving them tools to take home and utilise to continue to build these skills. A big focus of the day was to empower each of the leaders to own their experience and skills in SLS and inspire them to seek out leadership pathways to become the future leaders within in their clubs and SLS Sydney Branch.

"The leadership development day was an amazing opportunity to be a part of. Gaining the knowledge and advice to better confront the challenges I personally face from a leader's perspective, inside and outside of surf, is one I do not intend to waste." said Oliver Hunt.

Bella said that "Tama is full of leaders that embody compassion, trust, passion and being of service to others. The day reaffirmed that I don’t need to look far to be inspired, empowered me to feel more confident in my own skillset, and challenged me to think creatively about how I can contribute to the vision of our club."

We were very proud that our very own Tim Wright was invited to be a facilitator of the Leadership Day. If you are interested in attending an SLS emerging leaders training day later this year, please reach out to our general enquiries inbox [email protected].
