  • Gold Medallion Assessment 3 2019/2020

    Want to go for Gold in the 2019/2020 Season? This is the last of 3 assessment dates for the Gold Medallion. 

    ASSESSMENT DATE 3: SATURDAY 21ST MARCH 8AM @ BRONTE

    To qualify for your Gold you need ALL of the following:

    • Proficient in Bronze Medallion
    • First Aid
    • ARTC
    • Silver Medallion Beach Management

    What do I need to do? 

    • Swim 800m in under 14 minutes (prior to assessment date)
    • Complete a mission test of a 400m swim, 800m run, 400m board paddle, 800m run in under 25 minutes
    • Complete a board rescue of a novice swimmer 200m out to sea
    • Complete a tube rescue of a swimmer 100m out to sea (use of fins preferred)
    • Perform a complex patient rescue, including selecting equipment, returning patient to shore and treating patient appropriately and completing post-operational requirement

    Learning Materials

    There is an induction booklet here with more details of the course including scenarios for the patient rescue. It is recommended working through these in a group, and getting a training group together for the fitness components.

    If you would like to undertake this assessment, please RSVP by Wednesday 5th February. Your club CTO will contact branch to let them know, and you will receive an email from Branch with further instructions. You must have ALL the above pre-requisites when you RSVP.

  • Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue March 2020

    Bronte SLSC will be running a Silver Medallion in Aquatic Rescue (SMAR) course in March, 2020. Details as follows:

    Dates:

    Tuesday 24 March 6:30 - 9:30pm @ Bronte SLSC

    Thursday 26 March 6:30 - 9:30pm @ Bronte SLSC

    Saturday 28 March 8am - 4pm @ Bronte SLSC

    Pre-requisites:

    Current (proficient) Bronze Medallion.

    Minimum 16 years of age on the date of the final assessment. 

    400m timed swim in 8 minutes or less, to be submitted prior to course commencement. 

    Learning Outcomes: 

    Contribute to preparation activities for search and rescue operations

    Perform search and rescue of a missing person

    Demonstrate recovery and stand-down procedures

    REGISTRATIONS CLOSE THURSDAY 13 FEBRUARY. PLEASE RSVP TO SECURE A SPOT.

    All learning materials and further information will be emailed to candidates prior to course commencement. Members MUST bring the following with them:

    • Hi Viz singlet and club cap
    • Towel/s
    • Warm clothes
    • Spray jacket/wet weather jacket
    • Comfortable shoes
    • Sun protection
    • Water bottle/snacks
    • Wetsuit and booties
    • Fins
    • Goggles/snorkel
    • Torch
    • Rescue Tube
    • Public Safety and Aquatic Rescue Manual

    If you would like to gain the qualifications necessary to become a patrol captain, the SMBM is the course for you!

    Course Details:

    Monday May 4th 6:30 - 9:30

    Wednesday May 6th 6:30 - 9:30

    Monday May 11th 6:30 - 9:30

    at Branch Office, 16 Murra Murra Place, Little Bay. 

    Registrations close Friday 20th March. 

    Learning Outcomes: 

    • Act as a team leader as required
    • Undertake work activities and accept responsibilities
    • Set performance requirements and maintain team performance
    • Contribute to team outcomes and support team cohesion
    • Participate in a work team and communicate with management
    • Prepare for beach surveillance and rescue
    • Undertake preventative actions
    • Complete beach surveillance  and rescue recovery requirements
    • Respond to casualties in distress

    There is an online component which must be complete prior to commencing the course. This module can be found in the members portal eLearning library - Silver Medallion Beach Management.

    TAE Trainers Course:

    Clovelly SLSC

    This course is for members interested in becoming trainers for the Bronze Medallion and provides participants with two units of competency from the Cert IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116).

    Units of competency are:

    TAEDEL301 Provide work skill instruction
    BSBCMM401 Make a presentation

    Upon completion of training participants will need to assist in the delivery of two courses under the guidance of a mentor to become endorsed trainers.
