Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Am I required to pay before the start of the course?
A. Yes. And pre-paid candidates get preference in being admitted in the event the squad is oversubscribed. If you haven't paid in full by the first beach session you won't be able to take part as you wouldn't be insured.

*Q. If you have a surplus of candidates for the bronze class, who gets priority?
A. We give preference to candidates who: - are committed to becoming ongoing activel patrol members. - pre-pay their membership fees. Tama is a small club and needs more active patrollers to save lives.

Q. I can't make the date of the timed swim, can I still join?
A. It is essential that all candidates pass their timed swim by the first Saturday water-based class of the course.

  • If you're unable to make the date above, you must can arrange to complete a supervised timed swim before the course starts. The attendants at the Bondi Icebergs pool might be able to time you if you ask them nicely.

Q. What happens at the swim trial?
A. Candidates who swim 400m in:

- under 9 minutes are accepted onto the BM course. - under 9 minutes 10 secs may be given a second chance to achieve under 9 mins at the sole discretion of the instructor. - over 9 minutes 10 secs will be asked to train to get their swim time under 9 mins before re-applying. - candidates unsuccessful in their timed swim will be fully refunded their fees.

Q. What if I want to join and I already have a Bronze Medallion?
A. Please contact Surf Life Saving Sydney (SLSS) to verify they have a record of your BM. If they don't, you will have to re-do the BM course to become an Active patrol member. Please contact SLSS on awards@surflifesavingsydney.com.au or call them on 02 9019 0722 for more info,
