Welcome to Tamarama SLSC
Tamarama Beach is located between Bondi and Bronte. It is a tiny, peaceful beach loved by local residents and sun worshippers, most of whom would like to keep this paradise a secret.
Surfers, boogie boarders and swimmers are all regulars on the beach. The surf can be tricky with a decent rip on most days. However the beach is patrolled on summer weekends by dedicated teams of volunteer lifesavers, who are proud of its safety record.
The Club is situated on the north side of the beach, with spectacular views of the surf and down the coast. Loyal members enjoy the charm of the clubhouse and welcome new members to come and
join up. Members of other clubs wishing to join can
transfer to Tamarama SLSC.
In summer (October to April) 162 active members participate in patrols and support the Club, which is continuously training and upgrading their skill base to ensure the beach is safely patrolled. Training activities maintain members' skills and physical condition:
IRB (Inflatable Rescue Boat),
TOSS (Tamarama Ocean Swim Squad), surf ski, surf boats.
The Club is seeking Sponsors and Donors to support its day-to-day operations and to raise $2million for a complete
renovation of the Clubhouse. You can make a
donation to our building fund online at the
Tama Shop.
Clubhouse Upgrade
The Development Application for our clubhouse upgrade has been lodged with Waverley Council and the public viewing period is now complete. Submissions to Council indicate agreement between the community and Tamarama SLSC regarding our wish to preserve the peaceful community feel of our neighbourhood and clubhouse. Whilst a small number of individuals wondered if the existing building was being retained, most understood that our much loved clubhouse is being protected in the proposed upgrade. The architects entrusted with this preservation and sensitive upgrade are the internationally awarded Choi Ropiha Fighera Architects.
One urban myth seems to have emerged characterising the proposed clubhouse upgrade as a "Kings Cross by the Sea". In response to this concern, we wish to reassure our neighbours we stand together in our committment to preserving the local character of our neighbourhood. Our primary goal in upgrading our clubhouse is to improve our capacity to save lives and keep Tamarama Beach, recognised as Australia's most dangerous metropolitan beach, safe. That public safety is paramount in the upgrade is evidenced by the fact that the greatest increase in floor area is for rescue training and rescue gear storage. Floor area for public hire has been reduced. This de-intensification of public useage also suggests a reduction in vehicular traffic to the upgraded clubhouse. Mischievious rumours of an independently run "function centre" are false: the club is committed to self-managing modest events primarily for locals and in total compliance with current zoning and licensing laws. To protect our neighbours' amenity, the club proposes limiting events to fewer and even earlier finish times than allowed by law, with the proposed clubhouse also featuring an acoustic upgrade that reduces noise levels experienced by neighbours.
